The townspeople gathered in the Dancing Hall had been setting up the dinner feast tables, chairs and decorations, complete with all the honorary drinks when Mayor West had told them to clear the tables and chairs. When he rushed upstairs he had seemed worried; when he returned he seemed....almost gleeful. The plan had been changed...but the plan was still active.
Mayor West was a smarter man that people gave him credit for. He was one of the few who had survived the last destruction of the town...and unknown to everyone but his wife, he was the only one who had survived every destruction of the town. Mayor West knew many people from many places, but the people didn't question it - as long as there was enough business for the town to survive, then the people were just fine with his occasional odd guest.
So even though the townspeople could care less about an outsider like Hancock, if West thought he could be used for their cause, well, they trusted Mayor West. This wasn't how it was supposed to go down. The plan was pretty damn good. Somewhere, somehow, someone had screwed it up. Maybe it was because of one of the few outsiders still here. But Mayor West would lead them to their wealth. Mayor West would lead Desperado so its destined glory. So they say. So they say.

It appears there is much to learn about Hancock, and Mayor West as well. I am eager to see how they are connected. Mr. gm - did you say that Mr. Black had been to Desperado before and knew the people somewhat? If that is the case we are going to have to learn more about them quick.

So Mr. Black betrayed us after all. I did call the Inquisitors coming and slaughtering the townsfolk, though. Just ask Bob.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if anyone else has read the first "Dark Tower" book by Stephen King, but the end scene there at Desperado reminded me of one scene from the book - a nervous setting with the town citizens, and then the gunslinger guns down an entire town with his six-shooter as they chase after him.
Also Mike, I am going to write something up and send it to you - it will be a Ki-Tal introspective, but I want it to be posted to the blog if you don't mind. This will probably happen after we leave Desperado and get a chance to rest/sleep, so it probably won't be appropriate to post it until sometime after next week's session. Just a heads up.
Haven't read the Dark Tower series yet - sounds cool. The concept of the town going after the team is sort a dark homage towards a Trigun episode, where the main character is chased by the entire town whose buildings are decaying, even though they think of the hero as a nice guy. Things changed about Desperardo as the sessions progressed but that was was the initial idea.
